Review: The Longest Kiss by The Darkness: A Sonic Carnival Ride

If you’ve been missing the grandiosity of real rock n’ roll, The Darkness are here to save the day with “The Longest Kiss.” This track kicks off with a wild blues-infused intro, before smoothly morphing into a playful, Queen-like British stomp. The song’s melody is rich and delicious, and Justin Hawkins delivers with vocals that are both sweet, melodic and sexy. The ELO-inspired guitar licks, seamlessly woven between Hawkins’ lyrics, add layers of intrigue, and before you know it, you’re bobbing your head to the rhythm. The guitar solo is classic, rolling through the track like it came straight from a vintage Queen record, topped off with an 80s hair rock flourish. The Darkness once again prove why they’re one of the last true rock bands out there—this might just be the anthem for the rock revival we’ve all been waiting for.
