‘Pola’ Collaborates with Andy Summers of The Police on Bold New Alternative-Pop Single “This Is How It All Began”

London based singer songwriter Pola unveils third single “This Is How It All Began” from forthcoming album, due in October featuring Andy Summers from The Police.

Hailing from the renowned Pospieszalski musical family, part of Poland’s cultural elite, London-based singer Pola unveils an alternative-pop single that blends the mystical depth of ancient texts with the atmospheric realm of trip-hop and the oriental flute tones of the Middle East.

This track, a preview of her upcoming album—rich in genre and stylistic diversity—emerges from a creative dialogue between spirituality and contemporary musical language. The lyrics draw inspiration from biblical wisdom and symbolism, referencing metaphors, prophecies, and the poetic language of the Book of Revelation and Genesis—all presented through a modern, intimate narrative.

“Both the music video (directed by award-winning director ARCHON) and the song explore the timeless conflict between good and evil, the twisted nature of humanity in contrast to moral and ethical ideals, the struggle between light and darkness, and a message of warning,” says Pola.

Musically, the single dives deep into the aesthetics of trip-hop—with clear influences from Massive Attack and Portishead—featuring pulsating beats, spacious arrangements, and traditional Middle Eastern elements. These sounds form a bridge between musical worlds, surprising listeners with harmonic richness, melodic nuance, and Pola’s intimate, enigmatic vocals.

This single marks not only a new chapter in the artist’s career but also a bold sonic experiment that carves out new territory on the alternative music scene. This genre-defying track is now available on all major streaming platforms.

The song was written by Pola Pospieszalska and Szczepan Pospieszalski (frontman of alt-pop band Santa Barbara), and produced by Ed Harcourt, known for his work with artists such as Sophie Ellis-Bextor.

Born into the famous Polish musical family Pospieszalscy, Pola grew up immersed in music and has built a career that spans multiple genres and international audiences. Her debut album My Favorite Town (2010), produced by Robin Millar (Sade) and Ned Bigham (Amy Winehouse), gained widespread recognition, leading to major festival appearances, live TV performances, and support slots for global artists like Macy Gray.

Pola has performed for crowds of over 20,000 and toured extensively, including an unforgettable series of performances in China alongside Andy Summers of The Police. Summers also contributed his signature guitar work to Pola’s new album.

Available now on Spotify, Apple Music, Tidal, and YouTube.

QUOTES:

“I heard something in the voice that made me know that if a lot of people heard that voice, they would love it. You’re either born with that or you aren’t. Boy George has it, Sade has it, Tracey Thorn has it—and Pola has it.”
Robin Millar OBE (Sade, Everything But The Girl)

“This is something a little bit special, something new, and rather beautiful… Sounding like a potential James Bond theme. And with a poignant message for us in these troubled times: [The World Needs Love.]
Gary Crowley, BBC London

“Pola’s music is like a breath of fresh air. The songs match the personality totally, and her unique style and sincerity shine through all she writes and performs. It’s a pleasure to create music with her.”
John Altman (Van Morrison, Tina Turner, George Michael, Björk, Barry White, Bob Marley)
